BEHIND THE LENS

The Quitman High School Broadcast Communication Technology program is a 21st Century Community Learning Center after-school program.

The class meets in a technology-rich environment where students are introduced to the field of broadcasting.   Using state-of-the-art equipment, students experience hands-on educational experiences in audio and video production, writing styles for the mass media, and announcing for radio and television.

The program’s participants gain practical experience in producing, writing, editing, announcing, directing, reporting, and field and studio production.  The broadcast students record community-wide events which are streamed live for the world to see and marked for sale on DVDs.

Along with recording their classmates accomplishments and contests the broadcast students also write and produce PSA commercials and other in-studio events.

The teachers and students travel to other schools and businesses to observe and learn from other groups using similar technology: WTOK television studio, MSU's University Television Station and Hail State's production facilities, and MCC's broadcast communications program.

Students are also provided tutoring in subjects they may need extra help.
